Peter Kay cameos for small theatre production in Bolton

Peter Kay has recorded a voiceover for a small theatre production.

The comedian has provided his voice for a cameo role at the theatre where he used to work in the box office before finding fame, BBC News reports.

He will be heard in the production of Lighthearted Intercourse at the Bolton Octagon.

Maxine Peake - who also launched her acting career at the theatre - has recorded lines as Kay's character's wife for the play.

The production is a new version of the play written by Alife scribe Bill Naughton.

Lighthearted Intercourse was previously only staged once in Liverpool back in 1971, with Coronation Street's William Roache playing the lead role.

Bolton Octagon artistic director David Thacker said: "It's a real pleasure for us to have Maxine and Peter back here at the Octagon.

"Both have a history at the theatre - Maxine's first professional production was at the Octagon and Peter worked in the box office - so it's great that they wanted to return for this project."

The new version of the play was written after Naughton's daughter gave Thacker scripts and notes left behind by her father, who died in 1992.

Thacker added: "Though it retains the title from the Liverpool Playhouse version, Erna Naughton considers the Octagon's Lighthearted Intercourse to be a world premiere."

Peter Kay 'for Secret Millionaire spoof'

Peter Kay has revealed that he is making a spoof of TV show The Secret Millionaire.

The comedian described his project while speaking on Radio 2's Steve Wright in the Afternoon show.

Discussing what he would do now his 18-month stand-up tour is finished, Kay said: "I'll go back and do characters now. Go back to writing characters."

He continued: "I'm already doing something on Channel 4 next year. It's like a spoof of Secret Millionaire. I'm playing an old Irish guy from Limerick who runs a coach company.

"So it's nice to be able to put the stand-up away and put a wig on, and some false teeth, and be somebody else for a while, and do that for a few years."

Kay's previous TV projects include Phoenix Nights and reality contest spoof Peter Kay's Britain's Got the Pop Factor... and Possibly a New Celebrity Jesus Christ Soapstar Superstar Strictly on Ice.
